Suprabhatam (Sanskrit: सुप्रभातम, “auspicious dawn”) is a name given to Sanskrit hymns recited in the morning to awaken the Lord.

The most famous is the Lord Venkateshwara Suprabhatam recited at Tirupati to awaken Venkateswara. The rendition by M. S. Subbulakshmi can be heard in many Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu houses each morning.It was composed around 1430 A.D. by Sri Prativadi Bhayankaram Annan Swami, a disciple of Swami Manavala Mamuni, who also composed Sri Ranganatha Suprabhatam. Sri Venkatesa Suprabhatam consists of four parts: Suprabhatam, Sri Venkatesa Stothram, Prapatti, and Mangalasasanam.

Sri Sukta/Sri Suktam, is a vedic hymn from the Rig Veda which is in propitation of Shree or Mahalakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.

The Sri Suktam assumes specific significance because of Sri Mahalakshmi’s presence on Lord Sri Venkateswara (at Tirumala) or Vishnu’s chest, at the Heart. Lakshmi is the embodiment of Love, from which devotion to God or Bhakti flows from. It is through Love/Bhakti or Lakshmi that the atma or soul is able to reach God or Vishnu.

Sri or Lakshmi is also the personification of the Spiritual energy within us and universe called Kundalini. Also, She embodies the Spiritual World or Vaikunta; the abode of Lakshmi-Narayana or Vishnu, or what would be considered Heaven in Hinduism. She is also the Divine qualities of God and the soul. Lakshmi is God’s superior spiritual feminine energy or the Param Prakriti, which purifies, empowers and uplifts the individual. Hence, She is called the Goddess of Fortune.

The following is a hymn in praise of Goddess Mahalakshmi, who is the Goddess of wealth and all auspiciousness.

“Mahishaasura Mardhini” means one who killed the Asura called Mahishaasura and refers to the Goddess Durga. The demon was in the form of a buffalo and hence the name Mahishaasura.

The author of these verses is not clearly known but according to some sources it is said to be Ramakrishna Kavi. The verses have great poetry and use various alliterations to describe the divine nature of the Goddess Durga.

Easily classifiable as a tongue twister, these verses are traditionally chanted in South Indian homes during the Navarathri and have been made rendered impressively in the melodious voice of M.S.Subbalakshmi as well as the Bombay sisters. More recent versions include various contemporary artistes including Sudha Raghunathan and S.Sowmya.

Harivarasanam (also known as Hariharasuthāshtakam) is a devotional song composed in the astakam metre, recited at Sabarimala (the principal Ayyappan pilgrimage site), before closing the temple door every night.

The song was written by Kambamgudi Kulathur Iyer and Swami Vimochanananda sang it for the first time at Sabarimala.Though there have been many versions of this song sung by many renowned vocalists, the Sabarimala temple plays the rendition by Dr.KJ Yesudas every evening after the final pooja. Harivarasanam is written in highly Sanskritised Malayalam.

Today, as the final verses are being sung, all the assistant Santhis (priests) leave the Sreekovil one by one. As the song ends, only the Melsanthi is inside. He extinguishes the lamps one at a time and closes the doors for the night.

One of the ancient Sanskrit mantras, Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is a verse extracted from Yajurveda. It is supposed to be the  death-conquering mantra, and is  popularly referred to as Tryambakam Mantra, as it is identified with the three-eyed Hindu deity – Lord Shiva.

The Mantra  is sometimes called the Rudra Mantra, referring to the furious face of Lord Shiva. It is called the Tryambakam Mantra, when  it is referred to the alluding three eyes of Lord Shiva. When it comes to life, Mrityunjaya Mantra is called the Mrita-Sanjivini Mantra.

Mrityunjaya Mantra holds the highest place among the Sanskrit mantras used for meditation. The recital of Mrityunjaya Mantra is beneficial for the body and soul in many ways. According to Yajurveda, if the mantra is chanted with immense concentration and devotion, then it purifies the karmas of the soul. Mental, emotional and physical health can be improvised by the regular chanting of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. In the following lines, we have provided the Mrityunjaya Mantra.
